Operation "Nordmark" (18-20 February 1940)

The Gneisenau (to the left) together with two destroyers as seen from the Scharnhorst off the Friesian island of Wangerooge, 18 February 1940. The same day the German squadron set off northwards on Operation "Nordmark"

The crew of the Gneisenau is mustered aft to be briefed by their commanders during the early stages of Operation "Nordmark". Astern two destroyers can be seen.	The Scharnhorst photographed from the Gneisenau. One of the Gneisenau's Arado Ar196 aircraft can be seen on a reconnaissance flight.
