The Commissioning (7 January 1939)
The captain of the Scharnhorst, Kapitän zur See Otto Ciliax inspects the ships company by divisions.
The naval ensign is hoisted and the Scharnhorst enters commission. Notice the national eagle and swastika emblem on the stern.
A look from the port side of the stern. The "name board" can be seen on the hull to the left of the photograph. The commander of the Scharnhorst, Kapitän zur See Otto Ciliax, is standing on a podium erected on the "C" turret speaking to his crew.
The Scharnhorst shortly after the commisioning ceremony alongside the quay of the fitting-out basin.
